Flow Problems

Our alkyd melamine stoving paints show an orange peel effect. Can you suggest a remedy?

To prevent the orange peel effect, it is necessary to incorporate a suitable flow control agent in the paint formulation. Here there is a very wide choice of products. Those based on linear acrylic resins have proved to be good all-round flow control agents, but products based on urea. Melamine, cellulose acetobutyrate and polyvinylbutyral have also proved suitable. One would have to find out whether the additive would still be compatible at normal concentrations (0,5 -2 %). The most effective flow control agents, incidentally, are those based on silicones and fluorocarbons.
