Alcohol soluble acrylates

Alcohol soluble acrylates

What advantages do alcohol soluble acrylates offer

?

Alcohol solubility increases with increasing concentrations of monomers containing hydroxyl and carboxyl groups incorporated during polymerisation. One can even achieve water solubility by these means. The hydroxyl value and acid number can be used as control variables and are usually high. The incorporation of unsaturated fatty acids also improves drying characteristics.

The advantage of such materials, compared with water soluble resins is that no amines need be added. Nor does one have to use emulsifiers as in the case of water-based acrylic hydrosols.
