Odour of plastisol coated plastics containers

How can we avoid the smell which occurs when we coat polyamide drinking water containers with plastisol. Our formulation includes dioctyladipate as plasticiser and epoxidised soya oil.

lt is certainly not due to dioctyladipate, or more precisely di-2-ethylexyladipate. lt is more probably caused by the epoxidised soya oil or other components. probably metal salts of higher molecular weight fatty acids. The odour of these acids can be transferred to the plastisol coating via scission products during boiling down. With a bit of luck, substituting the epoxidised soya oil with other epoxide compound should be successful. Other components would be more difficult to replace.
