Aluminium bronze pigments for car touch-up paints

What points must we consider when using aluminium bronze pigments for car touch-up paints?

The most important condition for achieving a perfect metallic finish in car touch-up paints is the use of easily wetted aluminium powder pigments. So called "non-leafing" grades, which are enveloped by the film forming resin, will become evently dispersed in the paint film and do not tend to float. One should also ensure that the pigment platelets become oriented parallel to the direction of paint film expansion.

lf this does not happen, another solvent can be incorporated in the formulation to prolong the time needed for evaporation. This has a beneficial effect on pigment orientation, in the same way as does the use of film formers which cause a certain degree of solvent retention. This effect must only, however, be temporary. ln difficult cases the use of an additive, capable of fixing the pigment particles, is advantageous.
