Can alkyd resins which have been modified with balsam resin be used for making paints and varnishes ?
Alkyd resins modified with balsam resins can, indeed, be used for many types of paint formulations. They will produce water resistant, hard films which are fast drying. They can, if necessary, be made flexible by incorporating plasticisers such as phthalates in the formulation. Suitable solvents include white spirit containing aromatic compounds and aromatic solvents such as xylene and toluene.
