Are there any advantages in modifying synthetic resin dispersions with alkyd resins?
Such a combination is possible and, indeed, can lead to improved quality. The alkyd resin will, in any case, have to be emulsified or dispersed first. lf it is necessary to use a surfactant to emulsify the resin, the amount should be kept to a minimum. It would be better to use a water-thinnable alkyd resin wich, perhaps, can be mixed direct with a suitable polymer dispersion.
