Suggested Formulations for Permeable Wood Primers

Could you suggest some good quality formulations for permeable wood primers which are not too expensive?

Two points should be noted when formulating permeable primers. Firstly, the pigment volume concentration should not be less than 30 %, so as to achieve a certain degree of permeability. Secondly, the binder used should not be too flexible in order to avoid problems during sanding.

Fillers could reduce costs. A general formulation could be as follows; 40-60 parts by weight of along to medium-oil alkyd resin based on specially drying fatty acids (60-75 % in white spirit). 20~30 parts pigment (titanium dioxide or blends),wetting agent, other additives io impart thixotropy, and solvents.
To reduce drying time the Zr drier concentration may be stepped up from 0,5 to l %. General properties can, incidentally, be improved by incorporating urethane-alkyd resins.
