Water Resistant Polyacrylate

Water Resistant Polyacrylate

How can one improve the water resistance of polyacrylates?

There is a whole range of polyacrylate solutions and dispersions with very good water resistance. In addition, several paint manufacturers have developed special formulations which increase this water resistance still further. How this is achieved, however, is a trade secret. The usual method is to emulsify other paint resins and add these to the polyacrylate dispersion.

Polyacrylate solutions, too, can be blended with other paint resins, e.g. hydrocarbon resins, polyvinylidene chloride, certain phenolic resins, some epoxies as well as silicon compounds and various oligomers. A recent innovation is polyacrylate dispersions which have such good resistance to water and weathering that they are recommended for covering roofs.
