Residual Monomer in Vinyl Acetate

Residual Monomer in Vinyl Acetate

How can we cut down the amount of residual monomer in the polymerisation of vinyl acetate?

This can be done as in the case of other dispersions, by adding small amounts of fresh initiator solution at the start of the post-polymerisation phase. Polymerisation efficiency is checked by determining the residual vinyl acetate content gas chromatographically. Initiation can be repeated two or three times, depending on the reaction conditions.
