Low-odour amine

Low-odour amine

The set pH value of emulsion paints is to remain stable. Ammonia is effective, but has a strong smell. An aminomethyl propanol smells les strongly, but remains in the film for too long. Can you suggest a solution?

There is 2-dimethylamino-2-methyl-1-propanol which does not smell so strongly and improves gloss and flow. There is also 2-amino-2-ethyl propanediol-1,3 which is low-odour, acts as a dispersing agent and can react with formaldehyde. Morpholin could also be used. Any disadvantages can be eliminated with additives, e.g. stearates or wax preparations.
