Colored lacquer for mirror glass

Colored lacquer for mirror glass

Is there some colored, transparent lacquer with which we can coat mirror glass instead of the expensive process of coloring the glass right through ?

lt is not normally possible to use

transparent pigments

which have proved their worth in other fields since these will inevitable affect the transparency of glass. lt would be better to use a transparent dye in the lacquer. Dyes should  obviously be light fast. The binder used should be completely colourless so as not to affect the colour of the lacquer film.

Suitable binders include

acrylic and vinyl copolymer resins

and they should. of course, show excellent adhesion to glass. There should also be good adhesion to the silvered surface, depending on the construction of the mirror.
