Adhesives for PVC

Adhesives for PVC

What are adhesives for PVC based on?

Normal and chlorinated PVC can be boaded with an adhesive based on PVC it self dissolved in a solvent. More multipurpose adhesives are based on rubber, and on chlorinated and cyclic rubbers. Good results have also been obtained with block copolymers using methyl methacrylate. Adhesive systems based on polychloroprene also have important industrial application for these purposes.

Normally they only vulcanise to a slight degree but this can be more or less strongly promoted by addition of oxides. Adhesion strength at slightly higher temperatures can be raised by addition of phenol-formaldehyde resins and by chlorinated rubbers. There are many sources of the raw materials mentioned, for example, ICI and E.I. Du Pont de Nemours.
